MEET YOUR EDITOR

About Callie Fowler

I’m an agented author, MFA-trained editor, and the founder of Breitenbush Literary. I created Breitenbush with a simple goal: to make thoughtful, professional editorial support more accessible to writers, no matter which publishing path they choose.

As an author myself, I know how vulnerable it can feel to hand your manuscript to someone else. You’ve spent months—or years—building these characters, shaping this world, and trying to translate the story in your head onto the page. My job is to help you make it the strongest version of your story.

I specialize in commercial fiction, with a particular love for romance, fantasy, and speculative works. I love character-driven stories, complicated relationships, immersive worlds, and books with a little bite. My approach to editing is collaborative and encouraging, but I’ll also be honest about what isn’t working and give you clear, actionable guidance for tackling it.

I also understand that not every author is working toward the same finish line. I’ve been through the query trenches, signed with a literary agent, and experienced the traditional publishing process firsthand. I also deeply respect the creative control and entrepreneurial work that goes into independent publishing. Whether you’re polishing pages before querying, preparing a manuscript for publication, or figuring out what your story needs next, the editorial process should support your goals.

Before working professionally with fiction, I spent more than a decade in communications, marketing, and public relations—experience that taught me a lot about storytelling, audience, and finding the heart of what you’re trying to say. Today, I bring those skills together in the work I love most: helping writers tell stories they’re proud to share with the world.

Trigger-Free Editing

I have no content triggers and am comfortable working with dark, graphic, or sensitive material. I am also comfortable working with any spice level, from closed-door to erotica. I am happy to discuss any concerns or questions you have prior to us beginning work together.

P.S. If the dog dies, I am going to need a disclaimer up front. That's all I ask. 😭

Inclusivity and Safety

Breitenbush Literary is a safe, affirming space for BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and other marginalized writers. As a neurodivergent author living with chronic illness, I proudly support marginalized voices and am committed to creating an editing space rooted in respect, empathy, and belonging. Your identity, your voice, and your story are welcome here.

I have no content triggers, but I do have values. I will not work on projects that promote hatred, bigotry, discrimination, or the dehumanization of marginalized people.

AI-Free, Always

Your manuscript deserves a human reader. I do not use generative AI to read, edit, critique, summarize, or generate feedback on client work—ever. Your writing will never be uploaded to an AI platform or used to train an AI model through my services.

I also do not work on manuscripts written, rewritten, or generated using generative AI. If you’re asking me to honor the humanity behind your work, I ask that you honor mine, too.
